The restricted travel, panic over the risk of infection, continuous flow of negative news and scarcity of day-to-day material and resources due the corona pandemic are all adding to growing anxiety. Being confined to our homes can be mentally challenging. Besides staying connected to family and friends, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, there is also one other thing that can help keep anxiety and mental health in check - yoga. When lockdown first came about like most I turned to sour dough bread making, gardening and anything else that would fill my time, but I needed more than this to keep me calm and fit during these difficult times. I had returned to Yoga classes last November, following some hip problems, and while I was only attending 1 gentle flow class each week, I knew the benefits were more than just physical but also mental, so I started to investigate on line classes and discovered Yoga Sanctuary in Malahide where I had been going for my classes had an on-line offer. 9 months on and I am now practising yoga daily, I have moved on from just the gentle flow, but I still enjoy a Yin and gentle flow class each week, my flexibility is back to where it was post hip problems and I have achieved a sense of inner calm that I can only attribute to yoga. We have worked with Yoga Therapy over the years for the Vitality show and you will find some excellent videos on the Vitality website to get you started, I would recommend to anyone to give it a go, it may not be for you but then nothing ventured…. |

I am really lucky to live within a 5 minute walk from the seafront. I am trying to go for a walk about 3-4 times a week. Walking along the seafront looking out to sea and across to the Dublin mountains, breathing in the fresh air, always makes me feel better. It is often a struggle to go for the walk but you are always very glad that you did. |
